Hampton University Assistant Professor, Dr. Rupak Dua, Awarded $59,700 to Acquire Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope : Hampton University News


HAMPTON, Va. (April 16, 2021)  Dr. Rupak Dua, an assistant professor in Hampton University’s Department of Chemical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Technology, was recently awarded a supplement award of $59,7000 for his continuing Research Initiation Award by the National Science Foundation. The supplement award will allow Dua to acquire a benchtop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) that can magnify to 175,000x without a dedicated operator.

Hampton University Journalism Student Jamaija Rhoades Wins Pulitzer Center Fellowship : Hampton University News


HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 1, 2021) – Hampton University student Jamaija Rhoades has won a Pulitzer Center Fellowship and will partner with journalism experts to examine racism in the Richmond, Va., school system. Pulitzer Center staff and editors will advise her throughout the process and act as her mentors. Her final project will be featured on the center’s website as well as on the website for the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications.
“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Jamaija Rhoades for winning this distinguished fellowship. Her proposal to report on racism in education in the Richmond school system reflects the university’s values of respect and inclusion of all people. NASA officially named its Washington, D.C., headquarters building after pioneering engineer Mary Winston Jackson during a ceremony on Friday.
Members of Jackson s family and other prominent guests attended the small ceremony, including NASA Langley Center Director Clayton Turner, retired NASA engineer and Hidden Figure  Christine Darden, artist Tenbeete Solomon, and Jackson s grandchildren Wanda and Bryan Jackson.
In addition to unveiling a building sign with Jackson s name, the agency screened video tributes with reflections on her career at NASA, featuring family, friends, colleagues, astronauts, celebrities, elected officials and Hampton University President William R. Harvey. ....

HAMPTON, Va. As we celebrate Black history here at WUSA9, we honor those still making it, like Hampton University president, Dr. William R. Harvey. 
His more than four decades of leadership at Hampton stands among the longest tenures of a sitting president of any college or university in the United States. While his charismatic leadership has resulted in tremendous growth and success for the university, Dr. Harvey says the time has come for him to step down. 
Harvey has announced that he will retire after 43 years at the helm of this esteemed HBCU located in Virginia.
