Southampton Airport hit by covid crisis and Flybe

The covid pandemic and collapse of airline operator Flybe have taken their toll on the Hampshire airport.
Between February this year and September last year, terminal and transit passengers have fallen by a staggering 94 per cent on average each month.
During this time, 42,301 people passed through the airport in Eastleigh, based on figures from the Civil Aviation Authority.
However, between the same months, the year before the number was 755,230.

This means a drop of 712,929 passengers overall - or 94 per cent.
The most dramatic decrease was this February, with just 1,864 travellers.
Before the covid crisis, in February 2020, it was 107,169 - a 98 per cent difference. ....

Chambers of Commerce support Anvil Reverse the Cut campaign

“THERE is no doubt that without a strong Anvil, the brand of Basingstoke becomes weaker.”
These are the words of the chairman of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce which, alongside the Basingstoke branch, has voiced its support for Anvil Arts’ ‘Reverse the Cut’ campaign.
The Anvil Trust - which runs The Anvil and The Haymarket venues - has launched an appeal calling on the council to reconsider its recent decision to reduce its annual funding by £400,000, more than 50 per cent.
Senior councillors have previously raised concerns about the financial management of the organisation, which have been refuted by CEO Matthew Cleaver in wide-ranging interviews with this newspaper. ....

PAPER PREVIEW: Teenager arrested after double stabbing in South Ham

A POLICE investigation is underway after a man and woman were stabbed in the street in broad daylight.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on St Peter’s Road in South Ham just after 3.15pm on Monday (April 26) to reports of a man screaming, “I’ve been stabbed”.
A 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were taken to hospital with stab wounds.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Last night, police told The Gazette he had been released under investigation.

The 2021 Winchester Business Excellence Awards are organised in partnership with the Hampshire Chronicle, Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Winchester BID and are open to businesses within the Winchester District.
The judges will be looking to announce the three finalists in each category on Thursday 22nd July in the Hampshire Chronicle and on hampshirechronicle. co.uk and then a celebratory awards event, will conclude the awards on Thursday 2nd September.
