Hattersley, DBE, FMedSci, FRS, has been named the recipient of the 2021 Harold Hamm International Prize for Biomedical Research in Diabetes. Hattersley, Professor of Molecular Medicine, University of Exeter Medical School, U.K., was nominated by Alvin Powers, M.D., Vanderbilt University; and Juleen Zierath, Ph.D., Karolinska Institute, Sweden, and University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The Hamm Prize recognizes and encourages lasting advances in the field of diabetes research. It is awarded to an individual who has either demonstrated lifelong contributions to the field or realized a singular advance, especially one that promotes curative potential.
