Athens woman recalls horror of tragic fire that killed 3 family members
Al-Lynn Mayo could never imagine the horror that would confront her in the predawn hours Wednesday as she stepped outside her home in east Athens.
Mayo, who lives in Hallmark Mobile Home Park a massive residential complex numbering more than 150 trailer homes opened her door sometime around 3:30 a.m.
“I was on my couch watching TV. I’m usually up late. I don’t know why, but I thought about my car door, so I went to check and make sure it was locked,” the 22-year-old said.
Upon opening the door, Mayo saw flames spewing from a window in the home across the street.

Three people died in a predawn fire Wednesday at a home in Hallmark Mobile Home Park, according to the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department.
A young boy managed to escape with minor burns and some smoke inhalation, Fire Capt. Nathan Moss said.
The names of the victims have not been released as the State Crime Lab has the bodies for positive identification, Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson said.
Two women and a juvenile girl were killed, authorities said.
A neighbor called the fire department at 3:27 a.m. to report the home next his mobile home was on fire, according to Moss. The first unit arrived at 3:33 a.m., he said.
