Cape girls move to 7-0, boys win two for a 4-3 record

DAVE FREDERICK PHOTOS The Dover Senators came to town April 26 to join Cape and Sussex Academy in Henlopen Conference track & field action at Legends Stadium. When the dust settled, the Vikings boys topped Dover 97-42 and Sussex Academy 116-21, while the Vikings girls topped Dover 107-24 and Sussex Academy 100-41. The Cape boys move to 4-3, while the Cape girls improve to 7-0. The Riders of Caesar Rodney will visit Cape Monday, May 3, for the final dual meet of the season, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The next big test for the Vikings will be the Henlopen Conference Championships set for Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14.

The Cape Henlopen Vikings hosted the Riders of Caesar Rodney in winter track & field action held outside at Legends Stadium in cold and windy conditions Feb. 16. The Vikings easily won both meets, with the boys’ score 88-20 and the girls’ score 98-8.  “The boys are coming along, and for the conditions, they ran well,” said coach Ellis Gaulden.   The Cape boys were led by Ryan Baker and Barritt Ross with 9.25 points each, as they each won an event, grabbed a second place and ran on a winning relay.

Cape winter track tops Sussex Academy

Weather wreaking havoc on schedule Tim Bamforth February 12, 2021 The Cape boys’ winter track team hosted Sussex Academy Feb. 4 at Legends Stadium, and the Vikings topped the Seahawks 110-4 in track & field action. High scorer John Small won three events for the Vikings, taking the 55-meter hurdles in 8.29, the long jump in 20-feet-2-inches, and the triple jump in 38-feet. Hunter Jones took the 1,600 meters in 4:52, with Daniel Adili-Khams second in 4:55. Julian Calloway took the 800 meters in 2:06, while Andrew Wolak won the 400 meters in 55.5. Josiah Miller tossed the shot 46-feet-7-inches, while Ryan Baker ran 10:20 in the 3,200 meters by himself. His time is one of the top 15 performances ever in a dual meet at Cape.
