The Progress-Index A proposed ordinance could benefit Petersburg residents impacted by sewage issues. The Sewer Lateral Repair Program (SLRP), introduced by Andrew Barnes, general manager of utilities for the city, would place the responsibility of maintenance costs onto the city, rather than residents. Last month, Bertha Moss, 82, and her son, Wendell, battled with the city after dealing with back-to-back sewage flooding in her Halcun Drive home. If the proposed ordinance existed around the time of the backups, Moss wouldn’t have had to hire a third-party service to fix her connection line. “The existing code has a lot of issues,” said Barnes in Tuesday’s meeting. ....
