Medford partners with Monogram Gourmet Foods to re-open Whole Foods.

City officials last week approved a special tax plan that will bring an expected 250 jobs to Medford over the next 10 years.
The Medford City Council on Dec. 8 approved Tax Increment Financing for Monogram Gourmet Foods to reopen the old Whole Foods Market, Inc., Bread & Circus Bakehouse, at 300 Middlesex Ave. as a wholesale supply facility.
“We think this will be a great partnership for years,” Monogram Vice-President for Warehousing and Logistics Jeffrey Modica said.
“This is a business we welcome with open arms,” added Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, who proposed TIF at the Dec. 1 meeting, in which “municipalities may grant property tax exemptions to landowners of up to 100% of the tax increment for a fixed period,” according to the state Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit. ....

Medford partners with Soofa to provide kiosks for information

Medford has partnered with Soofa, a Cambridge-based startup, to install five entirely solar-powered signs throughout the community as a part of a plan to prioritize transparency and communication.
Launched by an all-female team out of MIT and Harvard in 2014, Soofa works to make cities more social, sustainable and smart. The company’s digital E Ink displays not only allow cities to communicate information with the community in real-time, but also let community members make an account to post to the sign for free.
With a vision to democratize its online platform, “Soofa Talk,” Soofa aims to create a space for local organizations, residents and artists to have a voice to participate in local conversation through a modern “neighborhood news feed,” according to Lyra Schweizer, Soofa s director of city growth. ....
