Industrial zoning for land near airport OK d by panel 63 acres could be split into 3 tracts; residents oppose ROSA SALTER RODRIGUEZ | The Journal Gazette About 63 acres rezoned from single-family residential to general industrial near Fort Wayne International Airport is now officially the Smith Dalman Economic Development Area. The tract at the northwest corner of Smith and Dalman roads received its final approval Tuesday with a unanimous vote from the Allen County Redevelopment Commission. The plan for the land owned by HBC Development Corp., Fort Wayne, is to divide the tract into possibly three separate buildable areas, said Rob Young, vice president for business development for The Hagerman Group, Fort Wayne. ....
Summer school expands at SACS Plan counters pandemic; to cost record $326,900 ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette Southwest Allen County Schools is planning its most expensive summer school program in recent memory. The school board Tuesday approved the administration s plan to offer an array of courses – including variations of English, social studies, science and math – taught by almost 60 licensed teachers at an anticipated cost of $326,900. In comparison, summer school program expenses have ranged from about $60,000 in 2012 to $136,280 in 2019, according to information provided to the board. The higher estimated costs are due to the pandemic and knowing students will need credit recovery over the summer, said Lynn Simmers, assistant superintendent. ....

Resident Kimberly Elam spoke out against a plan from HBC Development Corp., Fort Wayne, to rezone 63.15 acres at the northwest corner of Smith and Dalman roads in Wayne Township from single-family residential to general industrial for the construction of industrial shell buildings. ....
