Points of contention include conditions placed around the serving of food on the site, the construction of a 6m wide gravel track inside the park, the need for a dedicated parking area, and on the limited number of riders allowed at the park s first few events, a staff report to be tabled at Wednesday s council meeting says. ....

The Gympie arts community is calling on the council to give it some certainty as to the future of its River Rd base, saying it is at risk of having to give back more than $40,000 in funding without it.
Creative Arts Gympie Region has been calling the former Quartz Hub building on River Rd, opposite Memorial Park, home since the middle of last year after the two groups merged.
Secretary Lesa Campbell said the plan was to turn the building into an arts hub, home to everything from live music to performance.
But in November last year they were told by the council their management agreement was not being renewed and they had to leave in December. ....

Gympie owner of 2 pit bulls loses fight to save their lives

Gympie Regional Council has won the right to put down two dangerous dogs following a four year legal battle with their owner.
The council and Kate Mitchell have been fighting over the fate of a male black American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier named Max and a female brown and white American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier called Maggie since 2017.
The dogs were declared dangerous by the council in February 2017, after repeatedly escaping from Ms Mitchell s Tamaree property in 2016 and attacking a neighbour s dog.
Five months after being declared dangerous, Max and Maggie were impounded by the council following the death of another neighbour s dog, a five-month old kelpie cross pup named Boof. ....
