He didnt pass the barricade, he later did get out of his car. Hes been taken into custody. But not arrested. So a little bit different there. Theyre currently doing a security sweep of that car, to make sure that nothing bad could have happened, or that this man didnt pose a bigger risk. But its a little bit separate because he did not make it through the barricade. What ultimately stopped him . You know, were still getting some details from secret service on this. And they havent given as many as weve expected. Obviously, after the breach last night, things are a little tense around here. i want to bring in dr. jonathan reiner, a cardiologist and professor at gw medical center. let s zero in on this. back in may the cdc found this virus circulating in about 3% of cases. now less than two months later it s circulating in 83% of cases. is it most of the unvaccinated allowing this variant to spread so much and so fast in this country? what we really have is an asymmetric spread of the virus. and although every state is seeing an increase in cases, we re seeing it disproportionately in places where a number of folks who are unvaccinated is high. in fact, if you look at right now we re averaging about 37,000 cases per day in the united states. that s a 200% increase over the last 14 days, but a third of those cases is coming out of just four states, florida, louisiana, missouri, and arkansas. other parts of the united states where vaccination rates are high has seen very modest increases in cases.
