Rio Tinto is to pay a $28 million penalty to end a long-running legal saga over its disclosures about a disastrous Mozambique coal deal more than a decade ago.
Rio Tinto s former chief executive, Tom Albanese, also agreed to pay a $50,000 civil fine to settle related SEC claims. Neither Albanese nor Rio Tinto admitted wrongdoing.
