While most gun rights advocates would be in lockstep agreement that mandatory training to exercise any gun right is an unconstitutional infringement, many gun owners and even some professional instructors feel that the benefits of mandatory training outweigh the negatives. I disagree with the latter group. This is a position that I’ve held for as long as I can recall, despite the high value I place on education and training. The bill specifically seeks to repeal the state government’s authority to limit the sale, transfer or transportation of firearms during a disaster in the state, as well as repeal the prohibition on online or remote training in order to complete the requirements for Coloradans to apply for their concealed handgun permit.
