199 mass shootings since the start of 2023. this is this is not including the shooter. and keep in mind, this is only the 127 day of the year. every gun violence death in the united states is a tragedy. but every mass shooting is something else, to. it s a choice. a choice to keep living like this, a choice not to act. because there are steps that our leaders can take to prevent these massacres. or at least make them less common. president biden put forward these ideas in a statement today, where he said, thoughts and prayers are not enough. he repeated calls for banning assault weapons, and high capacity magazines. enacting universal background checks, requiring safe storage of guns, and ending immunity for gun manufacturers. president biden sense if congress passes a lot of those proposals, he will sign it immediately. but with this congress, i don t need to tell you all the chances of that happening are slim to none. ....

To waiting until 2021? it s to fight in the courts and raise our voices in the streets and hit businesses at their pocketbooks, just like we saw with walmart. that s not going to reduce every gun violence death, but it keeps the drumbeat going. the urgency of it was framed for me by a gentleman named scott charles in philadelphia. he s a trauma counselor at temple university hospital. he said what he s working on doing, because he doesn t have much faith that congress can do anything, is teaching people in the community how to suppress gunshot wounds so they can save more lives. he posed the question to me like this. are we here to stop the bleeding or are we here to stop the shootings? i think we need to find the political will to stop the shootings. wow, what a commentary, though, that some people who see this on the front lines feel compelled to do, just stop the bleeding, right? ....
