it could happen to any of us at any time and i m almost finished. when you talk about the nra and after a mass shooting that gun sales go up, i would argue it s not necessarily i think somebody is going to come take my gun from me but i want the hope and the hope that i have the right to protect myself, that i don t end up to be one of these families, that i have the freedom to carry whatever weapon i feel like i need like your wife said on the farm road. the sheriffs aren t going to get to my house, either. i know they wouldn t have stopped any of the people here in this room from killing so it seems like almost a false sense of hope so why not celebrate where we are? i guess that s my real question. well, first celebrate that we re good people and 99.9% of us will never kill anyone. let me make a couple points. first of all, thanks to your husband for his service and thank you for your service because extraordinary heroism that he and your family have shown in protecting all
his time in office. we are at the lowest murder rate in our country. all-time low of murders. we re at an all-time high of gun ownership, right? i m not necessarily saying the two are correlated but what we re seeing we re at an all-time rate for murder rate. that s a big deal. most of us in this country feel like it could happen at any moment, any of us at any time. when you talk about the nra and after a mass shooting, gun sales go up, i would argue it s not necessarily i think someone will come take my gun from me but i want the hope and the hope that i have the right to protect myself. that i don t end up to be one of these families, that i have the freedom to carry whatever weapon i feel i need. you will be able to purchase a firearm. some criminals will get their hands on firearms, even if there s a back ground check. somebody may lie on a form. somebody will intend to commit a crime but they don t have a record that shows up on the
two radicalized shooters opened fire at that christmas party in california. william, what is driving the numbers? every time president obama talks about gun control, gun sales go up. every time you have a mass shooting being gun sales go up. so you put those together, and gun sales this year will top $21 million. that is a record. 57,000 guns a day. and americans are not just putting these up in the closet. they are taking classes, going to the range and getting permits to protect themselves. since president obama s election in 08, the sales are almost doubled. under george bush, to 18 million under president obama. what we wanted to do was make sure that the customers that were buying our weapon s were
calipers. is that a key place people can be politically active, because there is an actual political pressure there? oh, i think this is a this issue is prime for divestiture. we have been mourning the loss of, you know, amazing leader in south africa. it was die test at your that helped change politics in south africa. it will be divestiture that helps force, you know, really horrible business community businesses like wall street, cerberus, to change their ways. but until we vote with our wallets, i fear that steven feinberg, frankly, likes more massachusetts kerrs, because mass shootings, because gun sales go up. and we need to hold him accountable. yeah, i think in all fairness, that s not an accurate statement. you can be profiting off the industry without wanting the% use of the weapons. many of the people in that line of business have said that repeatedly on record.
