Country has managed plentiful supplies at critical time.
The UAE’s food supply chain is better prepared to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic than several other countries, thanks to its advanced preparations and national food security strategy plan, said the UAE’s Minister of State for Food and Water Security.
“For many years, we have been preparing ourselves and recognised before the pandemic that over-reliance on global food supply chain makes us vulnerable, that occur beyond our control. So we developed a nationwide plan,” Mariam Almheiri said during the opening address of the Gulfood 2021 Innovation Summit, which began at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sunday. ....

Certain foods and beverages that aid in boosting immunity have been drawing increased interest from retailers, experts noted at the Gulfood 2021 exhibition.
Speaking to Khaleej Times at the event, several exhibitors revealed that, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, there had been an increase in demand for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items that were known to boost the body’s immune system. ....

Experts say that the Gulfood exhibition attracts key industry players from other big and relevant markets from the Mena region such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt
International F&B companies that are looking for growth opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region have crowned the UAE as their ‘perfect’ gateway into region, experts said at the 26th edition of the Gulfood exhibition.

The five-day event is witnessing the participation of 2,500 companies representing the food and beverage industry from various countries worldwide.

Covid-19: How has the UAE, GCC food sector changed during the pandemic

The pandemic had accelerated their plans to go completely digital.
Food and beverage suppliers across the UAE and the GCC region have seen a significant growth in their online business and delivery portals, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, experts said at Gulfood 2021 trade show.
The show, which opened its doors on Sunday at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), features over 2,500 international brands from 85 countries, and will run until February 25, 2021.
Experts at the event highlighted how the F&B industry had to adapt to a new normal as a result of several safety and social distancing measures impacting the way that they usually do business. Many noted that the pandemic had accelerated their plans to go completely digital, while others said that they had started offering online delivery services to businesses and consumers in order to promote ....
