MSNBC Jose Diaz-Balart Reports January 19, 2022 15:37:00

Expressing opposition to it? we ve expressed opposition. it needs to be heightened. that is a very important point. but also, the menendez bill, which i have helped to lead and, which is on the senate agenda right now, co-sponsored by many of my colleagues needs to be passed to demonstrate to putin that we are serious about these kinds of economic sanctions. we are not sending troops. there would be no united states military there, but we can help to train the ukrainians to defend themselves. and as a member of the armed services committee, we have provided and voted strongly for $2.5 billion in aid, but it needs to be the kind of lethal force, the small arms, that the territorial militias and potential guerilla and insurgent forces in ukraine will use to defend themselves, if vladimir putin takes this step. i think it s a miscalculation on his part, if he does it, because ....

Willing to step into that role and do that in the streets if necessary. exactly. it s something similar to militia. he is a trained philologist. he now worked in cloud computing i.t. in lviv. like many here, he has u.s. based clients, so the time difference allows him to practice shooting in the mornings and go to work afterwards. temore is also in i.t. dmitrio is a doctor. mikhailo is a graphic designer. ordinary citizens in the city of more than 700,000, now practicing tactical advances in case they ever need them on the city streets. he and his friends take this motto on display at the shooting club literally. lviv, people of action. if you will look into ukrainian history, throughout the 20th century, and we were fighting against ussr, so we had local guerilla forces especially ....

president putin should be deterred by the deliveries of sophisticated anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles. the ukrainians now have an anti-tank missile for every russian tank. you know, those stinger missiles were deployed in afghanistan back in the 1980s when i covered that war and they meant that the pilots had to go high. if you add to that u.s. tactical intelligence, this might be a very different war from what mr. putin expects. we should tell him in chance that we are ready to sustain a ukrainian guerilla war for ten years if need be and would increase our badges and create a gas union and thereby extract a much better gas price from him. those are the kinds of things a that would deter him. the nato issue is a red herring. you cannot enlarge nato against the will of germany and germany has said it s not happening. radek, what is your sense from munich and, of course, from the time when you were foreign ....

Training to have an unconventional guerilla war against them. if they try to go to capital, that s what they will be facing. something long, something protracted that will have bodies of dead russian solders going back to russia. that could stir up real opposition against vladmir putin. that s the one thing they may have going for them if they are add vising him against this. are ukraine soldiers equipped to take on what might be to happen. not necessarily in the short term. they have been trained but they will be out matched and not have the same level of technology that russia has and once the fighting start, that really makes the difference. russia has got experience fighting in syria and built up areas there as well and this is going to be televised. i think until the bullets start flying, so to speak, you don t know how the soldiers will act. i think the importance of having ....

As far as win can go they take over and subjugate the ukrainian people, i don t see that happening. the ukrainian people are standing tall. they re fighting hard. as the russians have moved into ukraine and kyiv, they re finding themselves in an urban environment. it s going to favor the ukrainians because they know the alleyways, they know the streets. they ll be channeling conventional forces. at the end of the day, the question for the russians can they sustain the morale of troops can they sustain the willpower of the russian people in order to contain the fight. that remains to be seen. i would say the longer the fight goes the better chance for the ukrainians to win it. do the ukrainians have the ammunition, do they have the manpower that they require? again, if you re talking conventional force on force, the answer is probably no. if you re talking about a long partisan guerilla insurgency, i ....
