“Today, our assets remain actively engaged in the search and rescue response and our responders are operating and searching as though there may still be survivors in need of assistance,” said Capt. Aja L. Kirksey, Sector Commander of Coast Guard Sector Honolulu.
Thirty-six fatalities were confirmed as Aug. 9 as the result of the deadly and devastating wildfires on Maui. Another 17 were confirmed earlier Aug. 10, with two more added that night.
A federal team arrived Aug. 9 on Maui and is on the ground in Lāhainā to assist with search and rescue efforts amid the devastating active Lāhainā wildfire.
Tuesday evening, the 45-foot Response Boat Medium crew arrived on scene and rescued 14 survivors from the Lahaina Harbor Breakwall with all survivors reported to be in stable condition.
