Railways loads highest ever freight of 114.8 MT in May, earn Rs 11,604 cr


Indian Railways Freight made the highest ever loading of 114.8 Metric Tonne (MT) for the month of May and earned Rs 11604.94 crores from freight loading, said Ministry of Railways on Tuesday.
In May 2021 is 114.8 MT which is 9.7 per cent more than May 2019 (104.6 MT) for the same period, the official statement said.
The important items transported during May 2021 includes 54.52 million tonnes of Coal, 15.12 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 5.61 million tonnes of Foodgrains, 3.68 million tonnes of Fertilizers, 3.18 million tonnes of Mineral Oil, 5.36 million tonnes of Cement (excluding clinker) and 4.2 million tonnes of Clinker.
Wagon Turn around time has seen an improvement of 26 per cent in this month. In May, 2021, wagon turn around time is registered at 4.81 days as compared to 6.46 in May 2019, the statement said. ....

IRCTC temporarily suspends operations of two Tejas Express


Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation on Monday announced further suspension of Ahemdabad Mumbai Tejas Express and Lucknow New Delhi Tejas Express amid rising COVID-19 cases.
Earlier this month, IRCTC had informed regarding temporary suspension of operation of Ahemdabad Mumbai Tejas Express for a period of one month, with effect from 2 April 2021. ln this context, IRCTC further informed that due to rise in COVID infection in state of Maharashtra and Gujarat, and travel related restrictions, suspension of Tejas Express is further extended till 31 May 2021.
On 7 April 2021 IRCTC informed regarding temporary discontinuation of the services for Lucknow New Delhi Tejas Express from 9 April to 30 April 2021. The company has now informed that due to rise in case of COVID-19 infection in the country and travel related restrictions; operation of the train is being suspended till further advice. ....

The 48-hour lockdown-
like curbs imposed by the Kerala government following unprecedented COVID-19 suge, came into force in the state with only essential services and emergency activities being allowed and a holiday declared for government offices and PSUs.
Police carried out intense vehicle check across the state since early this morning to ensure that nobody ventured out on roads and public places unnecessarily.
