Dhs was established in 2003 to respond to terrorist attacks within the United States. Since then, the range of threats that the department must manage has expanded well beyond foreign terrorism. Today, dhs has also tasked with confronting the threats posed by the coronavirus, Cyber Attacks, violent domestic extremists and climate change.
