TRENTON, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy reiterated his position that New Jersey students and staff likely still be wearing masks when the 2021-22 school year starts in September, but he did offer wiggle room for high school students and others who already have been vaccinated.
Murphy, speaking during his Wednesday news conference, first acknowledged that his statements were predictions and that a lot could change by early September.
My guess is we re likely to be masked, for the simple reason that only a couple weeks ago were we able to get 12- to 15-year-olds vaccinated, Murphy said in reply to a reporter s question about letters from two Ocean County school districts urging him to drop the mask mandate. ....

Students Rally Against Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines at NJ University: ‘They’re Going to Keep Moving the Goalposts’
Hundreds of Rutgers University students and their parents held a rally on the university’s New Brunswick, New Jersey, campus on May 21 to speak out against the school’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students.
The event was organized by Turning Point USA, Young Americans for Liberty, and NJ Stands Up, a medical freedom advocacy group, in response to the university’s new requirement introduced in March that all students enrolled for in-person classes for the 2021 fall semester must be vaccinated for COVID-19.
The mandate doesn’t apply to students enrolled in fully remote online programs; it also allows exemptions from vaccination on medical or religious grounds, according to a statement at the time the requirement was announced. ....

3 state lawmakers urge Gov. Murphy to make it easier for seniors to get COVID-19 vaccine

Three New Jersey lawmakers are spearheading an effort to get more COVID-19 doses administered to the state’s vulnerable population.
This isn’t the first time that the lawmakers have written to Gov. Phil Murphy about this. They are sending their second letter in just over a month to get mobile vaccination units sent to senior communities.
“Second letter, still no response,” says Assemblyman Gregory McGuckin.
McGuckin says that he understands that the governor is busy. But he describes the lack of response to his first letter, sent in mid-January, as a slap in the face. ....
