A Gulf Breeze man has been sentenced to state prison for a 2019 stabbing in Pensacola and multiple probation violations.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, 26, was sentenced Thursday to a total of 50 years in state prison by Circuit Court Judge Thomas Dannheisser, according to a news release from the State Attorney s Office.
Emerson previously pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree premeditated murder with a weapon and violations of probation connected to four prior felony cases.
He received a 20-year prison sentence for attempted murder and an additional 30-year sentence for multiple probation violations. The two sentences will run consecutively.

Stanley Lively, 53, was arrested Monday night after he was accused of battering two residents at Asbury Place, an assisted living community at 4916 Mobile Highway.
Sam Nichols, the executive director of Asbury Place, told the News Journal that she and her staff were fully supporting law enforcement’s investigation.
Both victims were transported Monday night to a hospital for medical treatment, and Lively was charged with two counts of aggravated battery.
However, one of the two hospitalized victims was later pronounced deceased, and the Escambia County Sheriff s Office launched a death investigation.
On Tuesday, ECSO spokeswoman Amber Southard said that the outcome of that death investigation could foreseeably lead to upgrading one of Lively’s criminal counts to homicide. ....

Escambia County Self-Reports Sunshine Law Violation By Library Board To State Attorney : NorthEscambia.com

April 30, 2021
Escambia County has self-reported a Sunshine Law violation by the library board to the State Attorney’s Office.
For now, prosecutors won’t take any action against four members of the West Florida Public Libraries Board of Governance for a meeting they held Monday in Century.
“We are not taking any action at this point, but there clearly was an apparent violation,”Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille told NorthEscambia.com Thursday afternoon.
The meeting was advertised for the Main Library downtown, not Century. Florida’s Sunshine Law requires that adequate public notice be given for public meetings, including time and the correct location. When NorthEscambia.com notified the board of the discrepancy in the legal notice, the board continued the meeting for a short period of time. And that, according to the State Attorney’s Office, is where they went wrong. ....
