BOULDER, Colo., May 20, 2021 /PRNewswire/  National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL), and NASA today announced their crowdsourcing competition, the Overhead Geopose Challenge , which is being implemented by DrivenData, and HeroX. The Challenge seeks solutions that make overhead images more useful for time-sensitive applications like security and disaster response. Participants are competing for a prize purse of $50,000.
DrivenData and HeroX
The Challenge seeks to build computer vision algorithms that can effectively model the height and pose of ground objects for monocular satellite images taken from oblique angles.
Overhead satellite imagery provides critical time-sensitive information for disaster response, navigation, and security. Most current methods for using aerial images assume that the images are taken from directly overhead. However, the first ....

NOAA Launches Crowdsourcing Competition for Better Forecasting of Magnetic Field with DrivenData and HeroX – Parabolic Arc

$30K in Prizes for Improvements of Current Models to Provide Advance Warning of Geomagnetic Storms and Reduce Errors in Navigation Systems
Boulder, Colorado December 15, 2020 The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in partnership with the NASA Tournament Lab today announced its crowdsourcing challenge, “MagNet: Model the Geomagnetic Field”. The challenge, which is being implemented by DrivenData and HeroX, seeks to mitigate the impact of geomagnetic storms on navigation systems through improved forecasting by increasing the accuracy in real-time magnetic field modeling and reducing errors in the magnetic navigation systems.
NOAA is calling on the global community of problem solvers and data scientists to develop better models to forecast changes in Earth’s magnetic field. The transfer of energy from solar wind into Earth’s magnetic field causes geomagnetic storms. The resulting variations in the magnetic field increase errors in magnetic nav ....
