The news filtered in on Wednesday, 19th May, 2021, that the Senate considered a Bill that seeks to prohibit the payment and receipt of ransom for the release of any person kidnapped, imprisoned or wrongfully confined. I wept as I watched the videoclip of the reunion of the Greenfield University Students and their Parents, over the weekend. They were tears of sadness and joy; sadness because of the five children who were senselessly and needlessly killed by their abductors, and joy because the Parents were able to raise enough money to secure the release of the rest of the children, after about 40 days in captivity. We say Alhamdulillah, Praise the Lord!

What sort of President âappealsâ to terrorists? If they were people who believed in appeals, they would not be terrorists. The fact that they are in their line of crime is unappealing. And when a President is reduced to âappealingâ to criminals, then the handshake has gone beyond the elbow and is no longer a handshake.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri has said the 27 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State who regained their freedom are in sound health after undergoing medical checks in their facilities.
He made this known while handing over the students to their parents on Friday.
Muri said the abduction of 37 students of the college on 11th March at the school premises was rather sad and after few days when the kidnappers of the students demanded N500m ransom the federal and state governments, as well as the Acting Inspector General of Police, were deeply engaged for the safety of the students.
