Grant focuses on helping students in recovery | WSU Insider | Washington State University

February 12, 2021 By Steve Nakata, Division of Student Affairs Cougar Health Services at Washington State University has been awarded a $500,000 grant to help colleges and universities across the state bolster support for students in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The grant is provided by the Washington State Health Care Authority and charges WSU with identifying best practices, developing campus and community resources, providing training, and creating virtual learning communities, that will help higher education institutions create their own recovery programs. The grant provides $260,000 for these efforts, which includes a statewide evaluation of collegiate recovery support services and the development of a webpage to help disseminate grant deliverables.

E Arlene McCutchan Passed Away : VOICE of the Valley

E. Arlene McCutchan age 93 of Maple Valley, WA passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020. Arlene was born on August 11, 1927 in Medora, North Dakota to Donald and Viola Ray. As a girl, Arlene loved keeping up with her dad and brother Leo outside on the ranch. She loved to talk about her childhood and about the good times in Medora or the long walks with her siblings to the one room schoolhouse. Arlene even played girls half-court basketball and traveled to other schools in the back of a truck. She spoke of her childhood with great affection. After high school she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she attended business school. On a visit back home, she met and married the love of her life, Don McCutchan. They worked on local ranches in and around Medora, later moving to the Seattle area where they would raise their three children: Billie, Susie, and Jerry.
