The two young women have been living and studying International Trade and Economics in China since 2013. Since then, they have been engaged in a series of initiatives to promote the Sino-Greek friendship. According to China’s Xinhua news agency, the two Greek women ”have produced several tourist videos in Chinese about Greece’s destinations, culture, and way of life, attracting in some cases over one million views on Chinese social media.”

Greek Tourism Minister twin influencers Marianna and Sofia Erotokritou with the title of “Greece’s Tourism Ambassadors to China” for their efforts to promote the country to Chinese social media. Known as the @greek twins, the Erotokritou sisters study in Beijing and promote Greece through their social media channels. Their videos are highly popular on the Chinese version of YouTube. So far they have promoted Hydra, Naxos and Paros, while their video on Athens and Santorini has exceeded 1 million views. “With his decision, the Tourism Minister aims to enhance the image of Greece abroad… The Erotokritou sisters act as an added value [for Greece], attracting visitors from China,” the ministry said in an announcement.

GTP Headlines GNTO Promotes Greece on Chinese Social Media

Greece as a tourism destination to the Chinese market, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), during December 7-11, took part in a social media campaign held by Sina Weibo, one of the largest social media platforms in China. Titled “Weibo National Week”, the campaign was launched under the motto “The world is so big, I want to see it!”, and proved to be successful as its hashtag gathered over 210 million views and 211,000 reposts. The campaign invited Chinese users to explore a number of destinations online and plan their next trip. Representing Greece, the GNTO service in China posted photos and videos on the platform of Sina Weibo and its own social media about Greek destinations – including Astypalea – and cuisine.
