Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s race for City Council District 7 has been eventful. Then incumbent Sonya McKinstry lost to challenger Cassius Lanier by a margin of fewer than 25 votes in the March general election.
Sonya McKinstry now faces Cassius Lanier in a special election Tuesday July 27th.
McKinstry filed a lawsuit that stated Lanier’s prior state felony convictions and federal felony conviction should bar him from holding office.
Lanier received 4 pardons and 1 federal pardon in April. A judge later nullified those decisions. The judge said Lanier had not obtained those pardons at the time of the general election in March. ....
