Neighbors fight proposed landfill expansion
HOUSTON – Some neighbors are raising concerns about a proposal to expand a landfill near Houston’s Carverdale area.
While the Hawthorn Park Landfill off of Tanner Road is not new, Waste Management is now asking to expand the facility.
“I’m against it at all costs and I’m ready to fight tooth and nail if I can,” said Iesheia Ayers-Wilson, a neighbor.
Some of the people who spoke with KPRC 2 raised concerns about traffic, property values, health and additional debris.
Mother’s Day service empowers women to be community leaders
Sunday is all about celebrating mothers and mother figures, and a church on the Northside is empowering women to be the best leaders they can be.
The Mother’s Day service at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church of Northside was dedicated to the women in our lives and our community.
The church honored Brenda A. Priestly Jackson, a wife and mother of four who also serves as a City of Jacksonville councilmember.
