Polio, or poliomyelitis, or the poliovirus, is an infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of five. It can spread person to person through contaminated water. It typically paralyzes people by attacking their nervous systems and there’s no cure. But there is a vaccine which Rotary and its partners have used to immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries.
