Madison Smith freely admits it’s not necessarily the academic journey she anticipated.
The recent graduate from the University of Georgia’s School of Social Work grew up on a small farm her grandfather operated in North Georgia. She initially thought she had left that life behind, but a project in the final year of her master’s degree program ultimately would marry them together.
Farmers in trouble
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, farmers in the U.S. have one of the highest rates of suicide for any vocational group. This sobering statistic is the primary driver behind a recently launched initiative between the School of Social Work and the American Farm Bureau Federation aimed at facilitating greater use of mental health resources for farmers and ranchers. ....

It is a debate that come up every spring. On Sunday, March 14, at 2 a.m., we all set our clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time, the annual springtime ritual that gives us an extra hour of sunlight in the evening. First enacted by Congress in 1918, Daylight Saving Time has been with us for almost a century, but through the years there have been a lot of misconceptions about why it was adopted and who’s responsible. 
One of the leading authorities on Daylight Saving Time was Tufts University professor Michael Downing. He literally wrote the book on Daylight Saving Time and was widely cited by national media including The Washington Post, National Geographic and The History Channel.  ....

Struggling Southland pensioners living in 'draughty dog boxes'


The man’s experience is an example of how tough times are for many over 65s trying to live off the pension, with no other income.
In 2020 there were 795,000 superannuation beneficiaries in New Zealand; this year the Government is expecting 826,000. Superannuation expenses are forecast to increase $969 million dollars in 2021, to $16.490b.
Superannuation is forecast to cost $20.625b in 2025.
Superannuants who live alone take home $847.66 a fortnight and couples take home $652.04 each a fortnight, Work and Income figures show.
As of January, the median rent in Invercargill was $290, Tenancy Services data shows.
