Amongst younger democrats and maybe older democrats recognizing the fact that we need new blood and they essentially are going to age out and maybe on the messaging. hopefully we ll continue. dana: mercy, would the republican party benefit from a trump or pence visit before this voting on saturday or is it better to stay away? in primaries, it s better for them to stay out. let these local republicans fight it out. at that point when we do have a candidate in place in that district, it s important that, if it makes sense for a trump or pence to go to that district. you want to create enthaou enthusiasm in that base. when you go to the polls, your grass roots game is critical to win in that district. dana: who would the democrats send?
One of the smartest guys that you ve ever met. i mean, you know the numbers. you re looking at the polls yourself. he s falling in the polls. you ve dropped his campaign. you ve left the campaign. what is missing from ben carson now? do you think ben carson can regaen it? regain it? you know, everything is possible. but the clock is ticking, and it s going pretty fast. and, you know, i don t know that television advertising is going to cut through the clutter in iowa these days. it s a grass-roots game. now, we ve spent a lot of money on data in the carson campaign, and we ve got a lot of targets out there. and getting them out to vote. that s going to be critical. but that s just iowa. then we move, you know, to new hampshire. and then south carolina. and then nevada caucuses. and then super tuesday. you know, by that point by the middle of march, this thing could be well over. and at this point it s getting harder and harder to see how donald trump isn t our nom thee. nominee.
We re talking about public stuff here. with trump in the race it become asahi profile public spectacle but the race will be won or last base tonight work that is done largely invisible, at the grass-roots level, bringing on volunteers convincing people to vote for you, hand shake by hand shake, ads placed in the local papers and that s unseen. you have to balance those two, a strong grass-roots game along with a clear-cut vision and convincing presentation on the debate stage. the organization matters as much as these public appearances. no question about. it so if you were on this stage and you are facing a donald trump and it s anyone s guess how he shows up thursday night, how would you prepare and execute depending on what you re nationing? far be it from me to give advice to these folks. just from your perspective. if you were facing this how would you approach this? i think what you re seeing is last night there s a clear
