When Army veteran Richard Perkins passed away at the age of 92 in 2014, he left behind a treasure trove of hundreds of photos he took while stationed in Hawaii after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Perkins was a radio operator who was stationed at Fort Shafter in Honolulu, and he worked at an underground base inside of Diamond Head. Except for a few brief stories, he never talked much about his service to his family.

While cleaning out his house after he died, his daughter Alice and son Dana came across a large tin container full of rolls of film negatives that had been developed, but never converted into photographic prints. Dana painstakingly scanned the negatives into his computer and converted them into hundreds of never-before-seen historical photos. The people in the photos include vete ....

Gurnee Exchange Club Hosts Virtual Trivia Night

The Exchange Club of Gurnee will host a Virtual Trivia Night on Friday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. This is the first of a series of trivia nights the club will host to raise funds to support local organizations working to prevent child abuse and to provide student scholarships.
Interested participants can form their own teams of up to eight members per team. If you don t have a team but would like to participate, you will be added to a team. The cost is $20 per person or $120 per team. The evening promises to be fun and competitive with six rounds of play ranging in categories from history and current events to music and movies. The first place team will receive a bundtlet a month for a Year for each member, courtesy of event sponsor Nothing Bundt Cakes Gurnee, and free entry into the next trivia. Prizes will be awarded to second place and last place finishers. ....
