LINVILLE — The Grandfather Community Foundation is pleased to announce that scholarships were awarded to three outstanding Avery County High School students. Penelope Brocco plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill to study environmental science and hopes to return to Avery County to help preserve our natural areas, especially our rivers. Kenneth Clark plans to attend Caldwell Community College – Watauga campus to study culinary arts so he can share his love of food and cooking with others. Reagan Hughes plans to attend Clemson University to study biology or veterinary science and hopes to work with animals and children. Applicants must be a graduating senior from Avery County who shows strong academic standing and demonstrates financial need. Preference is given for students who express a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully to the social and economic development in this area post-graduation.
