Buhari seeks debt relief, COVID-19 vaccines for Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider reducing the devastating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on African economies by restructuring debt portfolios and providing complete debt relief.

The president made the call at the Financing Africa Summit held at the Grande Palais Ephemere in Paris, France, on Tuesday, with the theme: “External Financing and debt Treatment”. ....

Buhari Seeks Debt Relief For African Countries


He said this would assist in reducing the devastating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the countries.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke at the Financing Africa Summit held at Grande Palais Ephemere with the theme: “External Financing and debt Treatment.”
The statement was titled ‘President Buhari seeks debt relief for African countries, says PPP will reduce corruption, speed growth.’
Shehu quoted Buhari as saying that the fall in commodity prices as COVID-19 took a toll on the global economy further slowed growth in some countries and strained health facilities. ....

Many African Countries Experiencing Debt Distress - Buhari Cries Out, Seeks Relief


President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Paris, France, called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider reducing devastating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on African economies by restructuring debt portfolios, opting for complete reliefs, and releasing vaccines to the continent, which is still behind in protecting majority of its citizens.
The President, who spoke at the Financing Africa Summit held at Grande Palais Ephemere with the theme: “External Financing and debt Treatment”, said the fall in commodity prices as Covid-19 took a toll on the global economy further slowed growth in some countries and strained health facilities.

Buhari Canvasses Debt Relief for African Countries

President Muhammadu Buhari has canvassed for debt relief for African countries by European nations and international financial institutions.
This is just as he gave an assurance that the Public Private Partnership (PPP) will be fully explored to ensure more precision in development, cutting down waste and reducing chances of corruption.
The president, who spoke in Paris, France at the Financing Africa Summit held at Grande Palais Ephemere with the theme: ‘External Financing and debt Treatment’, called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider reducing the devastating effect of the coronavirus pandemic on African economies.
