Newton Man Arrested in Hickory on Heroin & Meth Charges

42-year-old Douglas Ray Brewer of Grace Church Road in Newton was arrested by Hickory Police early Sunday morning (January 17) for felony possession of schedule I & II controlled substances. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia (two counts).
Brewer was arrested in connection to an incident that began Saturday night (January 16) when Police saw a vehicle in the parking lot at a convenience store on 2nd Avenue N.W. in Hickory. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Alexander County. Officers reportedly found 1.1 grams of heroin, 0.06 grams of methamphetamine, and 1.1 grams of marijuana.
