Everyone. Even adults in back seats. Iowa has a High Compliance rate for seat belt use but 41 percent of all the traffic deaths this year involved someone not wearing a belt. Were going to do everything we can. A law is just another tool we can use to try to drive down those numbers. The iowa state patrol cant get involved in pushing for changes in law. But the director of the Governors Traffic Safety Bureau says tougher texting and set Impaired Driving enforcement are priorities his office will take up with lawmakers this session. Law enforcement statewide will take part in extra traffic patrols for the holiday beginning wednesday. Theyll concentrate on speed, seat belt use and distracted or impaired drivers. I think there are a lot of people who looked at the flood of 08 and said that was a one time event that will never happen again but the events of the last 10 days convinced us that absolutely can happen and in about a year, flood protection will be hard to miss.
