CMPD: Police Search For Armed Suspect In South Charlotte Shooting, SWAT Team Called

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police ask for the public’s assistance in finding an armed suspect involved in a south Charlotte shooting after a SWAT team concluded their search and deemed the surrounding area safe on Thursday.
CMPD s SWAT Team has concluded their search for an armed suspect. At the conclusion of the search, it was determined the suspect was no longer in residence, and the area was deemed safe. Detectives are requesting the public s assistance in identifying the involved suspect.
Officers say shortly after 10 a.m. they responded to a shooting near a home on Governor Morrison Street in the Providence Division, and were told the apartment manager had already notified police earlier of a missing person potentially inside an apartment. ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – William Phifer owned approximately 28 enslaved people. He was one of the two largest slave owners in Charlotte. Today, Phifer Street in Uptown is named for him.
Charles Aycock served as North Carolina’s 50th governor. He is also remembered as the primary architect of the state’s white supremacy movement. Aycock Lane, just south of Dilworth, is likely named for him.
Cameron Morrison served as North Carolina’s 55th governor. He was also a leader in a white supremacy campaign that worked to suppress and terrorize Black voters in the late 1890s. Morrison Boulevard and Governor Morrison Street in SouthPark are named for him. ....
