Donna Kay Rawls Tuttle

Donna Kay Rawls Tuttle, who loved to be called "Grammy" by her grandchildren, departed her loving family and reunited with her parents on December 16, 2021. Donna was born on August 16, 1939, in Fairfield, Illinois to Mary and Homer E. "Andy" Rawls. She graduated from Fairfield High School as a cheerleader for the mighty Mules and attended Butler University in Indianapolis. She moved to Austin, Texas, in 1986 and fell in love with the state. In fact, she was named an "Honorary Texan" by then Governor Ann Richards. She eventually moved back to her hometown of Fairfield to reunite with her nearby family and lifelong friends. Donna, known her entire life as "Donna Kay" by her close friends and family, was a creative, talented, beautiful lady. She was a fine painter, seamstress, quilter, and quilt teacher. Donna made many of her children's clothes. She loved to garden, always had the most beautiful flowers on the block, and worked at Black' ....

In those days even the lower elevations blossomed and bloomed with lush profusion. Waist-high tobasa grass used to cover Tornillo Flat homesteaders harvested and baled it for hay. Today Tornillo Flat is one of the ugliest parts of the park, a barren desert of deep arroyos, dried-up springs, and a few creosote bushes. An army expedition in 1860 reported that the grass along Terlingua Creek was stirrup-high and described the creek as a “bold running stream, studded with cottonwood timber and alive with beaver.” These days, the stream is more timid than bold, and repeated browsing of cattle, sheep, and goats on the seedlings and sprouts has resulted in the near-elimination of the cottonwood. ....

Former Denison Mayor, TMC official, RMA leader Raymond 'Jerdy' Gary dead at 87


Long-time community leader Jerdy Gary died last week at the age of 87.
Raymnod Jerdy Gary  was born in Madill, Oklahoma in 1933 to Raymond and Emma Gary. He came to Denison in late1950s to run a petroleum company Sooner Oil Company. In addition to being a businessman, Gary shined as a community leader with posts on a group of local organizations too long to list including,  a 20-year stint as Chairman of Texoma Medical Center
He was also appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to chair Grayson County s Regional Mobility Authority in 2008. He left that spot in 2010.
In 2006,  Gary was recognized for his long term service to Texoma Medical Center. He has served on the THCS Board of Directors, currently including two terms as chairman for a second time. He was a founding member of the TMC Foundation, serving 14 years as its chairman. During his time as foundation chairman, country music singer and actress, Reba McEntire, joined Gary in supporting the foundation ....
