Parents across the country are being reminded to check their children’s immunisations for conditions such meningococcal, measles, and tetanus are up to date, as they get ready to begin schooling this year.
Immunising against harmful, contagious but vaccine preventable diseases, protects the health of Australian families and communities. It is also a requirement for many Centrelink payments that children are immunised.
The process to check that a child’s immunisations are up to date is simple and easy to navigate online.
Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt described Australia as a “vaccination nation,” and encouraged families to prioritise their child’s immunisation. ....

EXHAUSTED carers within the National Disability Insurance Scheme are overworked and have little time to tend to their own needs.
The admissions came to light on Monday during NDIS Shadow Minister Bill Shortenâs visit to an Ipswich disability provider.
Joined by Member for Blair Shayne Neumann, the pair heard from staff at the Alara facility in hopes of gaining better insight into how ordinary Ipswich residents relate to the scheme.
Unfortunately, not all appeared merry as frustrated workers detailed their daily stressors.

A parliamentary inquiry into Victoria s contact tracing system and testing regime has found that the state was not fit to deal with any escalation of cases, which eventually led to significant errors during its second wave of the pandemic.
This finding, made by the Victorian Legislative Council Legal and Social Issues Committee, came with 46 others along with 19 recommendations that were published in a 260-page report [PDF] on Monday morning.
According to the report, the Victorian government s communicable diseases track and tracing system, called the Public Health Event Surveillance System (PHESS), experienced an unprecedented volume of data during the pandemic, which affected system performance and reporting timeliness . ....
