Three COVID-19 patients, who were waiting at the triage zone of the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem, died on Wednesday. However, Dean R. Murugeshan said he was not aware of the issue and that all the 800 beds in the COVID-19 block were occupied.
Sources in the hospital said that a 52-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were waiting in ambulances while a 35-year-old woman was waiting in an autorickshaw near the zone. CHENNAI: Protests, long queues, heated exchange of words between disappointed kin and Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) officials and allegations of hoarding marked the sale of antiviral drug remdesivir across the state on Monday.
TNMSC data shows the counter at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital in Chennai sold 1,500 vials of the drug, followed by 560 in Coimbatore, 500 in Madurai, 393 in Trichy and 300 each in Salem and Tirunelveli, all at MRP. However, many continued to purchase it in the black market, with one person at a private hospital in Chennai shelling out ₹30,000 per vial. ....

As people swarmed the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) in Peelamedu on Monday to buy Remdesivir, the staff at the special sales counter had to issue tokens for the next four days.
“As of now the counter sells 500 vials of Remdesivir a day (a maximum of six vials for a buyer). A large number of people came to the campus and requested us to issue tokens rather than making them wait for long hours. We took their request into consideration and tokens were issued for four days”, said an official. ....
