A change in travel plans for brook trout originally destined for a popular Vermont reservoir will benefit anglers at four other sites, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department announced this week.
Water levels in Sugar Hill Reservoir, also known as Goshen Dam, will be lowered this year to fish-unfriendly levels maximum depth 1.5 feet to allow for upgrades to the dam, according to a news release from the department.
The 1,350 yearling brook trout (averaging about 9 inches) and 450 two-year-olds (about 13 inches apiece) scheduled for stocking at the reservoir will be rerouted to Lefferts Pond in Chittenden, Smith Pond in Pittsford, Silver Lake in Leicester, and Prentiss Pond in Dorset. ....
