meanwhile, michigan congressman justin amash explains his decision to jump ship from the republican party. the former gopper spoke with jake tapper this morning about why he chose to leave the party of trump. i think this term in congress has really shown how bad it can get. over the years i ve seen that people are just falling in line behind the leaders, including people in my own caucus, which i left. so it s gotten worse and worse, and i think this was the term that really broke it for me. let s bring in political national reporter daniel strauss and julian aguilar. let s start with justin amash. breaking the dam here? you know, i think his past comments, nobody was too surprised. the president s reaction is one you re going to continue to see based on republicans that speak
department. the top democrat on the party asserted that it is all about politics but said something interesting, he believes that the house should consider what senate gopper s that brian should get immunity. and so we ll see where it goes today. and today as expected the fifth was asserted and it was only 15 minutes and we go on from here. greg. right now litheuana s comfort will accept 1100 refugees. they are struggling to reach britain and france. and very little about what it is like once they arrive and whether it was worst risking their lives. ben hall has more. ben?
up, killing jobs. [ inaudible question ] i think that s unconnected to my comments about the overall question here. oh, mr. mcconnell got caught on that one. connect would not exist without what he s called the worst legislation passed in the last 50 years. sorry there, mitch, but connect is actually obamacare in kentucky. and that s duplicity to a tee. but senator mcconnell isn t the only gopper with a problem. here s majority leader eric cantor just last year. it is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who are brought to this country as children and who know no other home. then just last week, cantor stressed that he supports legalization for young undocumented immigrants in the military. but that was all in washington. back home where he faces a tea party challenger it is a very different message. here s a mailer that was
run out the clock, so to speak? right. is he tore rand paul, a lot of 2016 buzz, of course, among those at this week s tea party newser on the hill. is paul, is he the gopper who will beat this drop the loudest, if not until 2016, at least until the midterms? i think we are going to see a lot of people beating that drum. i know that we saw bobby jindal make a speech last nate, he was making similar allegations against the administration but certainly, rand paul is someone that we are keeping a close eye on. we were enjoying his filibuster the other month. that was a very interesting sort of political play for him. i know the base really likes him. he doesn t carry the same baggage that his father did in certain ways and so, i think we will have to see what comes of rand paul but issues he is not going to let go of, not by a long shot h mentioned bobby jindal, giving a speech in virginia later today. we have got an excerpt from that speech. he is going to say among other things,
president build the relationships everybody is craving for him to build? i don t think it s his style. i think you can look at democrats who have similar frustration. they see a president that is not the back-slapping president like in terms of lbj but a different environment now i think the president a has used biden in the way and perhaps see that down the line. at the movie white house when they were going to watch lincoln not one gopper showed up. if they can t get together for social reasons how can we expect them to get together for business reasons? the white house has a lot of events where the republicans are invited. you read mcconnell no s reactioo the speech. his whole objective is defeat president obama and that was his priority. republicans politically for many of them being seen with the president doesn t help them and they know that.
