Hip hop's hoi polloi turn out for Bronx Point groundbreaking


The hoi polloi of the New York hip hop scene turned out to break ground for Bronx Point, an apartment development that will include a permanent home of the Universal Hip Hop Museum.
The $349 million mixed-use project at 50 East 150th Street
in along the Harlem River waterfront in the South Bronx is being developed by
L+M Development Partners and Type A Projects.
Bronx Point’s first phase will deliver 542 permanently
affordable apartments to the Lower Concourse neighborhood, along with
approximately 2.8 acres of public open space

Artists In New York City Will Get Boost From $25 Million Program

New York City is launching a $25 million program to provide funding for artists for public works and to support artists who have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The City Artist Corps will pay artists, musicians, and performers to create public works across the city. That includes performances, pop-up shows, stand up comedy shows, graffiti murals, and other community art projects. According to
Hyper Allergic, the program is slated to create jobs for more than 1,500 artists in the city, a fraction of the more than 50,000 that reside in the five boroughs.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the program drew inspiration from President Franklin Roosevelt’s Federal Art Project, which was part of his New Deal to bring the U.S. out of the Great Depression. ....

New York City aims to offer coronavirus vaccinations to tourists

New York City hopes to begin offering coronavirus inoculations to tourists by stationing vaccination vans at Times Square and other attractions, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday.
The city needs state approval to vaccinate visitors and hopes to get an OK as soon as this weekend. The state Health Department didn’t immediately comment on the proposal.
De Blasio called it “a positive message to tourists: ‘Come here. It’s safe, it’s a great place to be and we’re going to take care of you.’”
“It’s a show of goodwill. It’s a welcome,” but not a requirement, the Democratic mayor said. He said the city has no plans to track tourists’ vaccination status. ....
