Zero Tolerance for Illegal Border Crossings

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new zero tolerance policy for illegal border crossings, during a visit to San Diego, on Monday, May 7.
“Today we are here to send a message to the world: we are not going to let this country be overwhelmed. People are not going to caravan or otherwise stampede our border. We need legality and integrity in the immigration system,” Sessions said during a press conference at the Border Field State Park, next to the border with Tijuana.
According to Sessions, the Department of Homeland Security will now refer 100 percent of illegal Southwest border crossings to the Department of Justice for prosecution. ....

The Chicano Federation of San Diego County celebrated 47 years of community engagement and service today, Friday, May 6 with its annual Unity Luncheon hosted at Downtown’s Wyndham San Diego Bayside.
Established in 1969, the Chicano Federation of San Diego County started as a social movement against discrimination to the Chicano community in San Diego, but has evolved to a service organization providing aid to all families in San Diego County, regardless of their background.
President and CEO of Chicano Federation for over 20 years, Raymond Uzeta, said today’s Unity Luncheon is the organization’s most important fundraising event of the year, and it was celebrated successfully. ....

DA Expected to Testify in Illegal Campaign Contribution Case |

San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has been subpoenaed to testify at the trial of Mexican businessman Jose Susumo Azano Matsura, who is facing federal charges of illegal contributions into San Diego mayoral campaigns, including for Dumanis’ run in 2012, as well as for former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.
Azano Matsura’s defense lawyer, Michael Wynne, has confirmed that subpoenas to testify in the trial, have been issued for Dumanis and Filner, as well as for Congressman Juan Vargas,
and local developer Doug Manchester.
“I don’t know if the subpoenas have been served but they have been issued,” Wynne said after court this Wednesday, August 10. ....
