He leaves a wife and two children. A 14-year-old boy, whom officers tried to save, also drowned in the incident. Familia, 38, a member of the Worcester Police Department for five years, was pulled from the pond by divers from the city Fire Department. The Worcester Police Department has lost a brother, a friend and a partner, said Police Chief Steven M. Sargent at an evening news conference in front of headquarters. The city of Worcester has lost a hero.

GoLocalWorcester | 16 Year Old Shot, Worcester Police Detectives Investigating Shooting at Crompton Park

  On Friday night at approximately 7:45 PM, Worcester Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Crompton Park for a report of a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers located a sixteen-year-old gunshot victim near the playground area. Officers rendered medical aid and the male was transported to the hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries. The Detective Bureau and Crime Scene Unit arrived and began the investigation. This investigation is ongoing.
