The popular attraction at Queens Park was forced to close in late February due to ongoing safety concerns. It was revealed the number of bats roosting in trees posed a serious disease risk, with many trees or branches also collapsing from the weight of the roosting bats. Confirmed cases of the potentially deadly Lyssavirus in the area also prompted the shut down of the popular park. Premium Content Subscriber only FEDERAL Government funding to the tune of $1.78 million will go towards local projects including roadworks, bike and walking paths and an off-leash dog park. The government has approved funding for seven projects in the Ipswich City Council area as part of its $1.5 billion Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program. Springfield-based LNP Senator Paul Scarr said the money will go towards kickstarting shovel-ready projects. “Every single job we support makes a huge difference in our local community, now and as we build our way out of the pandemic,” he said. “That is why we have moved quickly to approve funding to flow to seven projects. ....
