Shawnee area nursing homes reinstate in-person visitation

After a year of limited visitation from family due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many area nursing home residents are now able to see loved ones again in person, prompting many tears of joy during these reunions, administrators say.
Among those now able to see visitors are the residents of the Golden Rule Home in Shawnee.
According to Administrator Jessica Mitchell, she changed the facility s visitation policy now that most residents and staff are fully vaccinated.
I have updated our policy to address different scenarios indoor visits, outside visits, compassionate care visits and reasons we would need to limit visitations, off campus visitation and visitations during an outbreak, Mitchell said. ....

Weather Update: Pott. County nursing homes getting through winter storm

This week, Pottawatomie County residents have dealt with the difficulties of extreme winter weather, including the residents of area nursing homes who are braving the storm with help from staff members and the community.
According to Marilyn Love, McLoud Nursing Center administrator, the facility has dealt with some issues related to the extreme cold, but they ve powered through the struggles.
We are doing well just meeting normal challenges that everyone has, even at home, like making sure pipes don t freeze and heat (is) working and maintaining (it), Love said.
She explained the facility changed the residents menu to feature various forms of comfort food such as stew, chili, chicken and dumplings, and beans and corn bread. ....

Over the last several weeks, many residents and staff members at nursing homes throughout Pottawatomie County have received the second shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to Jessica Mitchell, administrator at Golden Rule Home, CVS provided the Pfizer vaccine to that facility and 95 percent of residents and 20 percent of staff members received the first round of the vaccine on Dec. 28 and the second round on Jan. 18 and Feb. 8.
There were very little side effects sore arm and a few headaches reported between staff and residents, Mitchell said.
The administrator said the residents are excited to be vaccinated and look forward to what it means for the future. ....

Golden Rule Home residents, staff receive COVID-19 vaccine

Both residents and staff members of Golden Rule Home in Bethel Acres received their first of two shots for the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine Monday, Dec. 28.
According to Administrator Jessica Mitchell, Golden Rule partnered with CVS and gave both residents and staff their first vaccine shot.
Mitchell said everyone will receive their second shot 21 days after their first which is Jan. 18.
Mitchell said about 51 people received the first vaccine shot.

Pott. County nursing homes to receive COVID-19 vaccines

Throughout the country, frontline workers and nursing home residents are receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, including residents and staff members in nursing homes within Pottawatomie County.
According to Marilyn Love, administrator of McLoud Nursing Home, residents and employees are scheduled to receive the first dose of the vaccine during the first few weeks of January.
Love said the nursing center is currently working on filling out consent forms for residents to receive the vaccine.
In addition to McLoud, Golden Rule Home in Bethel Acres will also have residents fill out consent forms to receive the Pfizer vaccine.   ....
