The government is set to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation of Nepal Police to investigate the 100-kg gold smuggling racket from the angle of organised crime due to the alleged involvement of racketeers in multiple layers.
KATHMANDU, July 31: In a recent development, Dawa Tsering, a Belgian citizen of Chinese origin, has been arrested by Nepal Police, drawing attention to potential political connections. The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) had been looking into matters of dual citizenship and passport when they discovered Tsering's links with ruling Maoist Center leaders and administrative personnel.
KATHMANDU, July 31: CPN (Maoist Center) Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun has demanded the formation of a parliamentary/judicial committee, or special committee to investigate gold smuggling.
KATHMANDU, July 26: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Prasad Lingden has questioned if the person who reported the gold smuggling did not name the owner of the gold. He also urged the government to form a special commission of inquiry to take up the gold case.
