WREXHAM: Demolition of Ysgol Pontfadog school will be 'emotional', says councillor as sale for affordable housing approved


THE demolition of a former village school will be “emotional”, a community leader has said after plans to sell it off for affordable housing were approved.
Wrexham Council’s executive board met yesterday (Tuesday, February 9) to discuss proposals for the future of the Ysgol Pontfadog site in the Ceiriog Valley.
The primary school, which served the area for more than a century, closed its doors for the final time in July 2019 amid dwindling pupil numbers.
The decision to close it was made by members of the local authority’s ruling independent/Conservative administration, despite strong opposition from residents.
However, senior councillors pledged to give the community a say on how the land should be used in future, with a report recommending selling it to a social landlord to build houses to rent to local people as the best option. ....

Plans to develop affordable housing on the site of a former village school are set to progress to the next stage after receiving unanimous support from senior councillors.
Ysgol Pontfadog, located in the Ceiriog Valley, shut its doors for the final time in July 2019 after serving the area for 110 years.

Simon Baynes MP has praised the Glyntraian Helping Hands for their 'incredible achievement'


THE MP for Clwyd South has praised the incredible achievements of a group in his constituency who have delivered 48 Christmas hampers to vulnerable residents.
Simon Baynes MP joined Glyntraian Helping Hands volunteers in a socially-distanced meeting at the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall in Dolywern on December 18 to congratulate them.
The group is a voluntary one, set up in 2018 and supported by Glyntraian Community Council, which offers support for residents who are experiencing hardship.
Congratulating the group, Simon Baynes MP said:
Simon Baynes MP said: “It was an absolute pleasure to join the Helping Hands volunteers on Friday in a socially-distanced meeting. I congratulate them all on their incredible achievement – which is particularly heart-warming so close to Christmas when isolated residents need plenty of support.
