Now the vaccination effort is fully underway and the CDC has loosened mask guidance, we’re all hoping for a more normal summer. And with the warm weather coming, people are making plans to see faraway family members, to visit their favorite vacation spots and take some time off.

But what data are state health officials basing this on?
The only data set the state has released about the sources of infections has been focused on outbreaks defined as two or more cases that can be linked to a common exposure. It shows that sports were the top source of known outbreaks going back to March. In October, the most recent month for which data is publicly available, 33% of the 51 traced outbreaks were connected to sports. But gatherings and parties only account for 6% that’s three outbreaks. ....
