This had transitioned after school to working part-time at The Marlborough Express, while giving the remainder of her time to growing her own photography business. “It s awesome that the kids are being given this opportunity at their age, and I take my hat off to Glen Mackie for making this happen for them,” Ingram said. City of Newcastle Works of art never before seen outside of the Torres Strait will be displayed in Newcastle as part of a landmark exhibition focusing on the artistic traditions of the Torres Strait Islander culture. The Torres Strait Island flag was raised at City Hall today for the first time in the building’s 92-year history to coincide with the Newcastle Art Gallery exhibition. It will be flown at City Hall permanently as a mark of respect for the local Torres Strait community. In Tolaga Bay, a small town of about 800 people nearly an hour north of Gisborne, one end of the beach near the famous wharf is almost clear and sandy, with only a touch of wood nearby. But at the other end, piles of battered and bruised logs still sit. Diggers are still beside the beach, with caution tape and keep out signs plastered around.
